Is the Window Closing on Low Rates?
Mortgage rates are up this past week, with 30 year fixed loans above 4 percent
for the first time since October.
The mortgage averaged 4.08% for the week ending March 22, up from 3.92%
last week and down from 4.81% a year ago. It averaged 4.1% for the week ending
Oct. 27. “Mortgage rates are catching up with increases in U.S. Treasury bond yields
placing the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate above 4% for the first time since the
end of October 2011,” said Frank Nothaft, vice president and chief economist of
Freddie Mac, in a news release.
Does the sharp jump signal an end to a four month run where rates held steady
at or near all time lows?
